Exercise 5

Dipeptides are peptides composed of two amino acids. The natural dipeptides are carnosine and anserine present in the muscle tissues of various vertebrates. Numerous dipeptides are prepared by synthesis for the study of dipeptase enzymes of the hydrolase class, which specifically cleave certain dipeptides into their constituent amino acids.

If you have not already done so, download Avogadro for free and watch the tutorials if necessary.

Open Avogadro and then create a dipeptide (sequence BuildInsert Peptide) and indicate:

• the peptide bond;

• the amino and carboxylic groups;

• how and where you could bind another amino acid to your liking and then create the union.
